Drink in These Colours-And Their Story...

Hello there

Now, I do realise that the design in today's post might very much either be to your taste, or not.

But as it's the middle of January, even if a  bright pink crochet effect pattern isn't your thing, I thought you might at least enjoy drinking in the colours...

Every design has its day

Here's a fun fact about this design. The actual motifs in this pattern have been on my hard drive for several years. But I could never see a use for them until that contest (and a big swing in the world towards bright colours) came about.

I guess the comforting moral of that story, if there is is one, is that every dog (or design, in this case) really does have its day.

Love, Peace, Joy, Courage Potion Bottles Pattern: Free Image Download

Hello there, and more than anything, in the light of all that some are experiencing around the world  hope that wherever, whenever and however you're reading this, you're safe, happy and finding ways to thrive.

This hope made me wish that we as a species could physically bottle love, peace, joy, and courage potions and send them out at a moment's notice to wherever it's needed. 

This pattern, in all its whimsy,  was the result of that thought. And if the idea speaks to you too, please feel free to download and use this image in your projects if you'd like. (Credit is always appreciated, but never required: my full angel policy is here).

Once again, I can't vouch for the size of download you'll get, as still haven't fathomed out how the blog is processing images these days.

And yes, just to be clear, the idea behind these is potion bottles and jars. So, yes again, I have been thinking about Halloween designs. This year's designs  all are cosy, warm and comforting, but all the details will keep for another post.

Is This An Orange Floral Daisy, Marigold or Calendula Design?

Orange Floral Daisies, Marigolds or Calendula Flower Border

Hello there.

And yes, this week's art is all there in the title. This design is based upon bright orange (and sometimes white) flowers I remember my Mum growing at home when I was little.

Watercolouring and sketching them was calming, peaceful, and instantly brought back all the warmth and possibility of being a small child in a garden.

I remembered most of these flowers, at least, as having been marigolds.

But "No", said the internet. "They're probably calendula," "Or maybe just orange daisies..."

Whatever they are, the feeling remains the same.

Violets Aren't Blue...

"Stripey Violets"

It's been "one of those weeks," for sooo many people, it seems,  am almost afraid to ask you how you are.

Here, The Computer Man and I are, ourselves, fine and very, very grateful for that.

It's just that, not having hearts of stone, it's hard to see others around in bother that you can do nothing to stop, prevent, or allay.

And so...

And so, in the scale of things, if this week's post is "just a pattern" (and, somehow,  a more sombre one than I was intending) it hardly seems to matter. Especially as as have always striven to be honest here, as elsewhere.

I don't know yet what will become of this one, if anything. But thought you might like to see it anyway. Will keep you posted on what happens to it.

Violets aren't blue...

And though I was bemoaning not having a "traditional," cheery red/white/pink valentine type post for you...It's just struck me that violets are, in their way, very much a Valentiney thing.

Even if, having watercoloured them myself now, I can absolutely confirm, they are purple (or purpley mauve, anyway), and *not* the blue of the rhyme.

New Design: Toadstools and Mushrooms

Hello there.

Hope you're well and thriving.

Yes, this week's  post is a bit later than usual, because it's been a busy week involving all sorts of things away from the computer. (House repairs, mainly...Do *anyone* ever enjoy even the concept of  maintenance tasks? If so, please can you tell me how? Thanks!).

Anyway...onward and upward. The inspiration this week came from a friend who takes the most marvellously atmospheric photos, and graciously allowed me to use her lovely, magical  pics of fly agaric mushrooms as the reference photos for the more mushroomy motifs in this design.

As you can see, out came a pattern that's perfect for really cosying up to autumn (or fall, depending on where you are ;-)

Seashells-Just in Time for the Beach...

Hello there and hope all is really well there.

It's a relatively quick post today, to introduce a new design.

In honesty, I started on these motifs an few weeks ago...And then realised that it's August already and that beach season (here in quite far north in the Northern hemisphere, anyway) can be short... Luckily, the turned into a pattern that features gorgeous and restful watercolour  turquoise, pink and white seashells on an aqua background. (I believe the shells are scallops, sea snails, cowrie, whelks  (and not a shell, but oh so cute and beachie) starfish are included too.

So, whenever you're bound for the beach, this tote bag, drawstring bag, backpack or dufflebag would make  great companions.

And luckily, this whimsical  design that can be lovely all year round.

"So, I'll Be Along With Another Unicorn in About a Month..."

One thing in short supply these past few months has been random conversational snippets as passers-by go about their business.  By which I mean, random snatches of conversation that last about 20 seconds, are complete in themselves, but beg sooo many further questions.

Well, like people themselves, it seems they're back around these parts, and,

 "So I'll be along with another unicorn in about a month,"

 is one of  *the* best such snippets I've ever heard.

Naturally, it made me stop eating my lunch and look up. (Well you would, wouldn't you?)

And the person who said it turned out, indeed, to have just delivered a unicorn. Just not quite the type you might be imagining.

The unicorn in question was a pedalo, being delivered to a  recreational lake near us, with the head and neck of a unicorn in plastic, with the rest of the pedalo being suitably boat-shaped behind it. Said unicorn was joining its friends the dragon, swan and flamingo pedalos.

The strange thing...

The strange thing is, even though the pedalo was plastic,  I haven't been able to get more mythological unicorns out of my head since. The idea of them just would not leave me alone until at least one had been drawn, written about here,  and made available in more ways than I might normally choose or think about for a design like this. Hence all the many variarions of the unicorn design on the pics in this post.

New Design: Purple and White Anemones Are Surprising...

This week's design is a surprise. The purple and white anemones were originally created for all the lovely people who buy my craft sheets. Thank you so very much, and here's a link to the latest floral sheets in action there.

What surprised me though, is how unexpectedly bright, striking and beautiful they looked on other items, from stickers to shower curtains. And especially on the small and pretty items that are so great and easy to send as gifts, like coasters, scarves, and pouches.

Whimsical Rainbow Winter Birds In Birch Trees Pattern (and Day 95/100)

 Following on from yesterday, it turns out that those rainbow birds did have a little more adventure to go, but not in quite the way I had thought.

I didn't add more to the picture, but I did turn it into a pattern. Which ends up looking like this... in my Redbubble shop...

And the nifty thing is, they're a lovely way to treat yourself and brighten up the winter, rather than being just for any festive season.

The "Winter Festivals" Collection Is *New*...

 Today's offering is my "Winter Festivals Collection"...

This "Winter Festivals" design is  a first for me because it's much more modern in design, and came about in unusual way. In a nutshell: I dreamt about this pattern. True, my recreation of it is not nearly as complicated or ornate as the one in my dream. But the idea of it, being the essence of all winter festivals, has somehow still come through. And gives you the chance to have décor  and gifts that work for a longer and wider winter and festival season than just Christmas.

As ever though this is still part of the "100 day" project...Day 87, to be precise. And there'll be something different  tomorrow.

At Last-The Christmas Foliage Pattern (Day 82/100)

 This Christmas "Leaves and Berries" foliage pattern has taken a while, and almost didn't happen, as you've seen. But am now loving the results. It's got the potential to give you Christmassy décor and items that are cute and fun, but still classy and restful enough actually to be part of your home during Christmas.

Day 68: "Cosy Cartoon Pattern," Stage One Sketches (Work in Progress)

 Remember a while ago I promised honesty about how long things take? Well, here it is again.

This is just a collection of drawings and sketches  of outline shapes and ideas. They're for a possible pattern featuring cosy motifs, but in a cartoon style. Which is all I can offer up today, as have also got some other projects going on that are still under wraps.

Christmas Berries: New Collection and Free Printable Background (Day 30)

 Hello again, and hope that life is treating you well wherever it finds you.

It's Day 30 of my crazy challenge, and today, I have the story of a pattern, a new collection and a free background for you.

The story starts a few days ago, when The Computer Man prised me away from the desk and we spotted these rather lovely berries...(This is part of one of his photos, so many thanks there too).

The berries burned their way into my brain in the best possible way, and I eventually drew them as the feature motif in what is (I think) my first Christmas pattern of the year...

Day 16: The Finished Fish Pattern

 Hello again. Remember those fish motifs from yesterday? (And my commitment last week to show you how long things really take?). Well, both of those things combined mean that Day 16 involved me simply making and finishing the fish pattern, including-eventually, finding just the right background colour.

As you might expect for a fishy pattern, it looks great on a shower curtain..

But it also makes a fun and whimsical floor cushion, 

and very cute on pouches (in various sizes-great by themselves or to act as a "wrapper" for other gifts).
