Whimsical Watercolour Painting: Happy Hollyhocks

Hello there, and happy Friday.

Don't know about you, but I couldn't quite let summer go this week. Perhaps because it's been warmer than in the actual summer ;-).

The late heat has also keep summer flowers in bloom. Which was a great chance to capture some happy pink hollyhocks in watercolour/watercolor. There's nothing quite like sploshing around bright, happy colours on a hot day).

I'm loving how these hollyhocks have turned out as prints...

But also that, somehow, they've sneaked onto home décor,

as well as Redbubble's latest and very useful offering...(just about to be released as I type)...deskmats.

That's all from here for now, but hope that some of the happiness and colour from these hollyhocks can make its way to you. Summer's been a long time coming ;-) .

Have a lovely weekend-more soon.

Sketchy Roses Pattern Collections to Mix and Match

A graphic of illustrated rose-patterned papers in a set
The "Sketchy Roses" printable papers
Collection

Hello there, and hope this finds you well and thriving.

Today, am so happy to be able to present my new, Sketchy Roses collection to you.

It's a coordinated collection of my designs for your projects, in a light and fun style that nods to tradition, but is sketchily light enough to feel fun and happy too. Each design can also be used in either direction. The collection is available on printable papers, and home décor/gift items too.

The story behind the collection:

The collection (in all  its forms) was inspired by the beautiful rose gardens we're lucky enough to have around these parts. (Thanks to The Computer Man who took these pics on a stroll we had.)

And, just like the different, multi-coloured roses in a flowerbed, these papers and fabrics are designed to be mixed and matched together in your projects too.

Finally, if you love the designs, but aren't feeling crafty, I've also popped a "mix and matchable," selection of gift and decor items onto Redbubble. You can see the whole collection here.

Here's how just some of  those gift items mix and match together as cushions and pillows, and on a mixture of items.

More than anything, please have fun, and may anything and everything in this collection spark joy and delight for you, your friends and family, and the world at large.

More soon.

Hello there, and hope you're thriving. Something suspiciously like spring sunshine appeared here this week. Not only has it brought out periwinkle flowers in the park, but also in my artwork.

At Last-The Christmas Foliage Pattern (Day 82/100)

This Christmas "Leaves and Berries" foliage pattern has taken a while, and almost didn't happen, as you've seen. But am now loving the results. It's got the potential to give you Christmassy décor and items that are cute and fun, but still classy and restful enough actually to be part of your home during Christmas.

Take a look at this throw pillow...

Or the design on a shower curtain and bathmat...

It's lovely as a cute Christmas clock...

But also cosy on this comforter...

And finally, as ever, if you enjoy sewing and would rather make your own creations, it's also available as a fabric on Zazzle...

Thanks for dropping by, and more tomorrow!

New: Happy Puffin Painting

Hello again. This week's offering  is a new and happy puffin painting.

He's inspired by the fascinating Audobon webcams featuring the antics of live puffins in Maine in the breeding season. Which I found courtesy of the equally amazing nature  and animal webcams at Explore.org (which is *such* great go-to -and free-site  for a mood-boost when you need one, by the way).

Anyway, back on the subject of the puffin, this little cutey not only looks great in all the ways you might expect, as in this framed print,

Puffin Art Print

But also, with the whites and blues   in the puffin print pattern version of this design look really stunning on items for the bathroom, like this shower curtain and bath mat.

Finally, if you're feeling like a spot of papercraft instead, he's also the main feature on new puffin-themed card-making sheets over at Craftsuprint.

So I hope these puffins brighten up your weekend in some way. Have a good one, and see you next week.

Need a Splash of Colour? Look at These Pink Gerberas...

It should be a truth universally acknowledged that the amount of time taken over a piece of work bears absolutely no relationship whatsoever to how popular and/or useful that item will turn out to be.

I used to think it was just me who often got more attention given to "quick sketches I wasn't thinking about and as just enjoying" than something over which I'd worked for days and tried to get "right".

But asking around other creative friends, it seems quite common that the pieces which felt as if they had the least (conscious) attention often work out best for everyone. Maybe it's the very consciousness in the well-worked art that might lead it to feel a bit...efforted, maybe?

Whatever the reason, this Gerbera sketch in pen and Caran D'Ache watercolour crayons (a fabulous new addition to my stash, BTW, that I'd recommend in a heartbeat if you're looking for new supplies) sadly, took less than an hour, and has led to all sorts of goodies (see below).

I say "sadly", because that was one of the most fun, joyous and colourful," not-quite-an-hour's" of art-making that I've had in weeks.

Anyway, as can appreciate you probably haven't got all day onto the goodies. That initial sketch (and its follow-up work, of course :-) gave birth to:

A full collection of household gifts and goodies in scrumptiously saturated deep pink:

about which you can find out more, here.

And if you're more of a "DIY" kind of person, there's also fabric at Zazzle (in the USA)

and WovenMonkey (UK),

And last but not at all least...a five page kit of printable joy at Craftsuprint.Com.

Enjoy this however you want-and thanks for dropping by.

More soon.

New Fuschia Design...And A Tale of Two Graphics...

Hello there, and if you happen to be reading this as it's published-first *thank you*, and even more importantly, a happy new year to you.

I hope the holiday period treated you well. Just for once, I almost took an entire fortnight off over Christmas. I say almost, because, well, art is fun, as well as work, and the idea of summer fuchsias took hold. One thing led to another, and then this little sketch...

mysteriously turned into this...

(with more pictures of everything looking yummy here).

(And if you're more into printables than décor patterns, you might want to look here too).

But apart from that, honestly, we concentrated on relaxing, and am genuinely and gently getting back to speed.

It's good to be back-more soon.
