A Happy New Year Card

Image shows a square card, with hand drawn champagne glasses clinking, surrounded by pink and purple painted balloons and streamers, on a sparkly purple, pink, blue white and silver background
A Happy New Year Card

Hello there

Assuming that you're reading this when it's scheduled to go out, I hope you've had/are having wonderful festivities or holiday time.

As I say, this a scheduled post that I pre-typed some time ago from your point of view, as like a lot of people (in the UK at least) am taking a full break until early January.

However, with you're already on the hunt for New Year cards, the image above is for you.

Full disclosure: this is a design that I've been selling for years, but don't ever seem to have put on the blog for some reason.

How to download this

If you're wanting to send this as an ecard, please feel free to click on the image and download it.

If you'd like to print and use it and/or remove the attribution for the image, the card sheet to make it is also available here.

And with all of that said, I hope this helps, and will leave you to get on with your day, whatever that looks like for you.

More soon.

Am so hoping that this post finds you well, thriving, and looking forward to a festive period that works well (whatever that looks like for you).

For my part, I'll be taking a few weeks off, and am planning to be back with the next live post early in the New Year.

Before I go though, I'd just like to thank you sooo much for being here along with me this year, and to offer you the "twinkling Christmas tree" gif on this post as an ecard or graphic for your own use too, if you'd  like it. You can tap on the graphic itself, (or here) to get it onto your own device, and use according to my -appropriately Christmassy-"angel policy" :-)).

And with that, I'll simply send you love and best wishes for a happy, peaceful and prosperous end to the year, wherever you are.

New Printable "Holly and Roses" Christmas Design

Printable Christmas Card Sheet in more detail...

Hello there

Hope you're doing well, however the winter season is appearing for you.

Here, I'm behind, as ever. But I've realised (and not for the first time) that our good old home printer can be my friend. In other words, fear not, because even if traditional Christmas cards may or may not get to you in time to send, you can print, make and send the printable variety for a good while yet (assuming that you're reading this close to the date I'm typing, in early December).

So, it seems like high-time to showcase one of my newest designs first: Holly and Roses. Great to cut out and send as it is, or with added layers featuring the floral jug, the sheet itself also includes a blank tag to cover the "Merry Christmas," message, if you'd rather say something else.

(And yes, if you're eagle-eyed, and have been reading this blog for a while, you might notice that whilst the holly in this design is new this season, I've been waiting a while to find just the right place for a variation on that  jug of roses and lilies...)

There are lots of printable options

If the "Holly and Roses" design is too floral for your festive tastes, there are plenty of other options. For example, this cute penguin family from a little earlier in the year are going strong in my Craftsuprint shop...

The image shows a square card front, resting on a blue paper mock-up background. The card features a pen and watercolour drawing of two penguins, and their cute pengion chick. The card has a thick silver digital glitter effect border.
Click or tap here to see this cute penguin family
on a full card making sheet.

And, if you're especially into all things really traditional, then click or tap here, to see how this "double robin," graphic...

Image shows two hand-drawn robins in mirror image. Each is on a hand-drawn log, surrounded by holly.
Tap or click here to see how this "double robin" graphic
fits into the card-making process

...is actually part of one of my best-loved printable cards...

Finally

Finally, if you'd like even more choice, and to explore matching papers, inserts and Christmas/festive/holiday verses that match the cards too, click or tap here to see all my printable Christmas designs at Craftsuprint.

As for me, this is my last posting about new designs for the year. But...am planning to post some fun stuff for us all in the next few few weeks.

So, as ever, thanks so much for being here, watch this space and...

More soon.

A New, and Free Christmas Tree Baubles Design

Picture is a downladable free graphic of a watercolour christmas tree and sparkly pink, purple and white bables.
Click, double-click or tap here to download these
"Merry Christmas Baubles in Purple and Pink"

Hello there

I'm sending this early, because amidst all the online sale clamour,  it just feels right to buck the trend a little bit, and kick off the pre-Christmas period here by *giving* you something.

So, please tap, click or double click here, depending upon your device, if you'd like to be able to download and use this Christmas bauble graphic (my full and generous-as-I-can-make-it angel usage policy for all BoundingSquirrel.com downloads is here, if you need it).

(I've given up saying exactly how big anyone's download will be on the blog, as it seems to vary here beyond my control at times. But it was created at 7 inches square and 300dpi, so something in some way printable should emerge if you need to print it).

Full disclosure: This "Merry Christmas with tree baubles," graphic is an alternative colourway to the more traditional one available to buy in my Craftsuprint shop.

But personally,  I'm loving this purple colourway more, and so wanted to make this the one to give you (at any time, depending upon when you're reading this) if that makes sense.

Finally

Everyone's busy at this time of year, so that's enough waffle from me. Thank you, as ever, for reading this, and may this time be bringing you all you need, whether that's sales galore, celebrations for some  people in the US, or just peace and quiet :-) .

More soon.

The Many Ways to Enjoy, Or Gift Art, Without Needing to Frame It...

Hello there, and hope all's well with you.

I need to confess something to you. And it's this. Although I really, *really* like to *make* art, all the precision and measuring of framing it...is not my thing.

Admitting that seems a bit embarrassing, seeing as how I enjoy the painting and drawing of it so much.

And so, I've kept it quiet. Until now. Because, when a friend mentioned putting off framing things too...I realised I'm not alone.

And so, if you hate framing as well, here are some alternative ways you might enjoy (or gift-because yes, it's "the season" for that as I type...) some scrummy art that can be enjoyed, without the need for fiddly framing.

1. Get a Displate

Art can be printed on metal easily...and sometimes looks even better than on paper.   Click or tap here for info.

Picture shows a dozen floral paintings hung together on metal plates in a neutral beige sitting room, with a cute dog on the sofa.
Sadly, neither this cute dog nor the ultra-tidy room belong to me :-).
But this scene from Displate does show what all my floral art
looks like as a complete Displate collection...

Fridge magnets themselves can display art surprisingly well, and at bigger sizes than I realised. (Though small ones can still be sent inside cards too, just like stickers).

Image is a photo of my puffin watercolour painting, made into a rectangular magnet, and popped onto a fridge door.
Feel happier looking at your fridge, with this cute puffin...
Tap or clik here to see more...

Cushions, throw pillows, call them what you will, still make a great way to display some art, that you get to see every day, and actually use.

For example, you can buy these daffodils as a print...But you can also have a breath of spring and joy to hug in the depths of winter with this throw pillow/cushion cover:

Picture shos a cushion cover entirely covered by a cheerful painting of yellow daffodils in a vase...
Daffodils in Sunshine Yellow Cushion/Throw Pillow.
Tap or click here to find out more...

When you read that, you might  automatically have thought about T shirts. They bear a huge number of designs. But other options are available too.

For example, if Christmas jumpers aren't your thing, you could nod to the festive season with these holly patterned socks.

Picture is a photo of a pair of hollypatterned socks. The pattern is in watercolour, the holly is dark green with red berries on a white background, and each sock has a black heel.
Holly Patterned Socks-tap or click here for details.

And if you're gifting things,  am feeling that  must have told you before about the surprisingly large number of people who are walking around the world sporting my marmot, or kingfisher socks...

But maybe you're thinking, "No, Clare, this isn't it. I have *pictures* that I need to frame, and I still hate framing...".
In which case, you might want to consider a new option, of pop-up frames.

This is a solution I only came across very recently. So I have yet to try them out, and have no idea whether they are available outside the UK, for example

However, these people say that they're pop-up sturdy card frames solve many framing woes.

I'll add more info here when I have it. But it looks like it might be an especially good option if you need a very light frame,  are framing for fun or household use only, or want to try out lots of options before settling for one look.

Yes if it's a really special gift or item, some things do still look absolutely great in a frame. But that doesn't mean you have to frame things yourself.

Here's the Barn, Owl, Night sky painting from a recent post, looking resplendent in a frame, which Redbubble can sort and ship for you.

And finally...

I've really only just scratched the surface of this topic, and know that there are a gazillion more ways to display and use art without having to do the conventional framing thing. To start with, I just wanted to get this post out to you in good time...And at least begin to map out some options for solving the perennial framing problem.

But it is my plan to update and add to this list regularly, and even maybe include some progress pics.  So, literally, please watch this space...

For now though, hope this helps, and thanks ever so much for reading right down to the bottom.

As ever, there'll be...

More soon.

New Painting: Barn Owl, Night Sky, (And a Strange Tale...)

Image shows a peaceful watercolour barnowl with bronzy feathers perched on a branch against a dark blue night sky of snowy stars.
Barn Owl, Night Sky, by Clare Walker
Click here to see it as a metallic Displate

Hello there, and hope you're thriving in your corner of the world.

This week's tale, is, I promise you, unusual, (for me, anyway).

How This Barn Owl Came to Be...

You see, I suspect that there's a weird myth out there about how things get created.

The myth

It goes something like this. Artist/designer/insert name of other creator here, spends each day in a haze of glorious inspiration, effortlessly "bringing through," phenomenal pieces of work, always inspired by an ever-obliging muse.

That's the ideal, and inspiration *does* feel wonderful. In fact, it may be a (healthy) addiction to inspiration and flow that keeps anyone going in this kind of field.

The reality, however is often a lot less glamorous, and may involve anything from feeling totally uninspired by grey November weather, to shouting in frustration at a website as it refuses to upload your image for the umpteenth time (ask me how I know..:-) ).

However...

However, in this case, there was a fair bit of rare magic involved. Which is perhaps, fitting for a creature as mystical as a barn-owl.

For a start, my one and only real-life encounter with one of these magnificent creatures was the wonder of its silent flight across the lane in front of our car, in the dead of night, almost two years ago.

Image shows a cushion or throw pillow on a sofa/couch. The throw pillow is patterned with repeating barn owls, in a patchwork style.
Barn Owl, Night SkyThrow Pillow/Cushion

For various reasons, that night also changed my life. (So maybe some of the association between barn owls and transformation has legs).

So, there was the real inspiration. And this week, almost two years later, the image and essence of Barn Owl came so strongly into my mind that I could almost sense its silent flight, from that inner image alone (if that makes any sense at all).

Far from being an elusive muse, the image felt alive, and even had views on how best I should complete it. (And yup, I guess that betrays that I do talk (and listen!) to some of my paintings. But honestly, it's those ones that seem to turn out the best...)

the image shows a round table and chairs. The table is covered in a repeating design of barn owls against the night sky
Barn Owl, Night Sky Round Patterned Tablecloth

It stayed longer than I'd bargained for...

This determined barn owl soul only flew out of my mental space when it had expressed itself in full as a painting *and* been properly distributed (that last part being hand-on heart, something I don't always do as much as I should).

So that's why this bird (started in traditional watercolour, made extra bronzy with metallic watercolour, and then given his or her night sky in several digital layers) was rather special. (And appears in all the places and products scattered through this blog post).

Picture shos a mock-up of the complaeted card, where the owl is surrounded by textured white paper effect and digital gold trim.
Tap or click here to buy the sheet that
will enable you to make this card for yourself...

And so...

And so, the unusual twist in this tale, is that yes, the wonderful, flowing, inspirational feeling of  doing the bidding of a friendly but exacting (in this case feathered) muse does exist after all, it seems.

Will I be relying on it in future? Absolutely not.

But if a kind and happy part of nature wants to pay a visit in this way again, I'm very open to the experience, and promise to do my very best, both for them and the people (maybe like you, and if so, *thank you*) who want them in their lives too.

Finally...

I hope you enjoyed this strange-but-true tale. And as ever, thanks so much, both for being here, and for reading down this far.

More soon.

This week, picture says it all. Whoever you are, wherever you are, and whenever you're reading this, please accept a free virtual hug in the form of this virtual graphic (and share it if you wish, just as it says at the bottom of the image.).

I can't vouch for the exact image size you'll get from Google when you do, but it should be enough for most things, especially online.

Just tap, right-click or click on the image or this link , and this cuddly bear graphic and his message are yours. Hope you enjoy this bear as much as I enjoyed digitally watercolour painting this image, in Krita 5.

That's it for now. But take good care of yourself. And as ever, there'll be...

A Totally Surprising Watercolour Tip

Hello there

Hope you're doing well in your corner of the world.

As promised, today's post is short and sweet, *and* a complete change of tempo to those of recent times.

I've finally had chance simply to mess around with watercolour again, and I discovered something that's new to me. Drumroll please... It's that...

*You can use watercolour/(watercolors in the USA, I know) on thin card packaging* (as demonstrated in the picture below).
Image shows white cardboard packaging, decorated with bright orangey yellow, green and brown ink and wash autumnal leaves.
Autumn Leaves on Packaging Cardboard
(Sakura fineliners and Inktense washes used)

The idea behind it

I first had an inkling that this might work when reading an out-of-print book on Archive.org. (If you haven't discovered this *amazing* free site by the way, it's a treasure trove in itself, and an especially good source of written and pictured art lessons in book form). But I digress.

The book itself was actually about papercraft, and not art at all. I've even forgotten its title, as I actually read it a few months ago.

But it mentioned in passing that all paper of a weight above a certain number (which I think was 250gsm, but don't quote me on that) was actually classed as a thin type of card.

As the best watercolour papers are usually 300gsm and above, this got me thinking. Could thin cardboard be a suitable (and very cheap, accessible and eco-friendly) substrate for watercolour?

The experiment

This week, when I finally had enough time to devote to fun experiments like this again, I tried it out on the next piece of available piece of thin card packaging that came into the house.

Lo and behold, drawing and painting on it actually felt smoother, more fun, and easier to use than a lot of the usual watercolour papers. It was able to take loads of washes without buckling, dried quickly, and gave a lovely smooth, bright  result.

For someone like me, who only ever thought the "official" type of paper would work, this was a total revelation.

Cautions

I should also add some words of caution here. I have no idea whether this works on all types of card, or whether I just got lucky. Time will tell.

Obviously, this is also best suited to practice work too, or things you plan to scan into a computer anyway (more on that soon). There is, by definition, nothing archival about it.

Finally, to be exact and technical, I was using Derwent Inktense watercolour half-pans, which are a little to different to other watercolours, and a water brush.

Finally

But if this sounds interesting to you, and you fancy playing around with the freedom of painting on something you were only going to recycle anyway, why not give it a go and/or suggest it to someone you know?

(It was so much fun here, that I'll definitely be doing it again, and will update you on progress).

I promised you a short post, so that's probably more than enough from here for now. As ever, thanks sooo much for being here, and enjoy your week.

More soon.

Big News: Bounding Squirrel Designs Are Now On Spoonflower

Hello there, and hope all's well with you.

It's not often I call any news round these parts "big".

But after having put in months of work learning and uploading behind the scenes, I'm super-proud to announce that you can now buy almost 30 of  my designs on Spoonflower's high-quality fabrics, wallpaper and home décor items, with many more designs to come in the future.

The top of the online shop-front currently looks like this (though those autumn leaves will change with the seasons and over time, as will the design selection):

Image is a screenshot of the starting scroll of BoundingSquirrel's designs on Spoonflower.com, showig the tile and the first six or so, mainly floral designs.
Tap or click here to visit BoundingSquirrel's
storefront on Spoonflower.Com

Spoonflower prints every order on demand, and perhaps of special interest to people in the USA where it is based.

I can give you a flavour of the items they offer, such as this marmot tea-towel, (and indeed tea-towels generally, upon which I can now finally sell  my designs properly, thanks to Spoonflower).

Image shows a tea towel, covered in a design of cute and furry illustrated marmots.

And here's a  curated selection of my current designs, showing a small fraction of the variety of fabrics, wallpaper and other products made to last on Spoonflower:
Image shows selveral items each bearing a BoundingSquirrel design, eg. autumnal red leaf wallpaper, black and cream poppy seed fabric-and those marmots again...

Tap or click here to visit the Boundingsquirrel designs
 storefront on Spoonflower.com

But...

But the best, quickest and easiest way to see my new designs on Spoonflower,  (unsurprisingly) is to visit the BoundingSquirrel shop on Spoonflower.

Have fun there. And if you're already a Spoonflower customer, but you need a different size or colour of design..Or anything you'd love to see which isn't there yet, please message me on Spoonflower and I'll do the very best I can to help.

Phew again!

After all the new items of recent weeks, I can promise you a complete change of tempo next week, to something much gentler and of the more "sketch-blog" type (both for your sake and mine :-) ).

In the meantime, thanks *so* much for being here, and have a great week.

More soon.

Cosy Halloween Autumnal Designs Are Here

Hello there

Hope all is well with you, and as promised, this week's post is full of Halloween printables, designed to be of the cosy and heartwarming kind.

Image shows a card front based on warm orange, with an line and wash watercolour copper cauldron full of many green bubbles, and cosy pumpkins around the side as decoraiton.
Click or tap here to download and buy the full "Cauldron and Pumpkins"
Printable Cardmaking Sheet at Craftsuprint.com

The full sheet gives you a variety of embellishments and sentiments that are easy to cut out and use, and hence the option of making the same card design sound very different for each recipient. Simply change the sentiment tag for each person, and the card will have a very different feel.

For example, the "Happy Halloween," sentiment tag might be perfect for general use, or with children or grandchildren. Those who honour the wheel of the year especially may prefer, "Happy Samhain."

Close up of the embellishments and
sentiments on the main "Cauldron and Pumpkins sheet

Or, for the friend who always jokes about their cooking (and/or who loves a joke anyway) how about adding the "An Alternative Way To Make Pumpkin Soup...," tag to their card?

If you want to add your own sentiment this sheet also has you covered, with a blank tag designed especially for it.

And if you'd like more...

If you'd just like to send a cosy and fun card, the main card sheet by itself gives you all you need.

However, if you'd like to add a matching insert (complete with an optional verse that carries on the "home and hearth" theme  from the main sheet) that's available too.

Image shows a blank cosy pumpkin sheet, and one with verse : May your home & hearth be happy And your life be warm and bright And may all that’s good in a whirling world Light up even the darkest nights.
Cosy Pumpkin Blank and Verse Insert Sheet

And this beautifully bright and warm pumpkin border (that, as it's composed entirely of pumpkins, might also be useful in Thanksgiving projects if you're in the USA)...

A spookier Halloween?

I know that some people actually love the spookier aspects of Halloween. (Confession: I'm a scaredy-cat). But if you love spookier things, then I also have you covered in my Craftsuprint shop (with the added bonus that the colours and fonts from each Halloween set should all interchange pretty well).

Whether you're seeking cosiness or spookiness this year though, please remember that these are downloads, so (as I type on Oct 17th 2024, anyway) there should still be plenty of time to download, make, and send these items.

Finally...

Phew! Thanks so much for reading this unintendedly-marathon-like post, down this far, and for being here.

More soon.

Love, Peace, Joy, Courage Potion Bottles Pattern: Free Image Download

Image shows a repeating pattern in which hand-drawn potion bottles in various shaed of bright green, orange, brown and blue are labelled, love, joy, peace and courage.
Click, tap or double-click here to
download and use this image if you'd like

Hello there, and more than anything, in the light of all that some are experiencing around the world  hope that wherever, whenever and however you're reading this, you're safe, happy and finding ways to thrive.

This hope made me wish that we as a species could physically bottle love, peace, joy, and courage potions and send them out at a moment's notice to wherever it's needed.

This pattern, in all its whimsy,  was the result of that thought. And if the idea speaks to you too, please feel free to download and use this image in your projects if you'd like. (Credit is always appreciated, but never required: my full angel policy is here).

Once again, I can't vouch for the size of download you'll get, as still haven't fathomed out how the blog is processing images these days.

And...

And yes, just to be clear, the idea behind these is potion bottles and jars. So, yes again, I have been thinking about Halloween designs. This year's designs  all are cosy, warm and comforting, but all the details will keep for another post.

For now, am just going to thank you so much for being here, and let those love, joy and peace potion bottles do the talking.

More soon.

My 2025 Floral Calendar May Look Familiar...

Hello there, and hope all is well in your corner of the world. Today I've something to show you, but also a tale of my own blunders intended to make you smile.

Firstly, if you're on the hunt for a lovely floral calendar, full of watercolour flowers at every time of year, this may be the post for you.

Image shows the front of the calendar, featuring blue line and wash watercolourdelphiniums.
2025 Calendar Front Cover

Here's the back of the calendar, showing all 12 images together...

Iamge shows the back of the calendar: 12 smaller images to illustrate each month's flowers.
Back cover showing all 12 images

And a peek in more detail. Some of the months show the flowers in context (like February and July).

Image shows lavender tumbling out of a large terracotta pot, all depicted in line and wash watercolour.
February's calendar image
  transports you
 to lavender in
 a summer garden...

Image shows a line and wash watercolour of whimsical butterflies on a purple/mauve butterfly bush.
July's happy butterflies are in a
different garden
...

Others show the flowers in even closer detail, (like March and October).

Image shows my line and wash image of bright yellow daffodils in a glass vase.
Bright daffodils await you
in March...

Image shows my line and wash watercolour painting of a cascade of bright orange nasturtium flowers and their green leaves...
And mellow nasturtiums
feature in October...

And if this calendar looks familiar...

And secondly,  if you've been reading here a while, and these images somehow look familiar, you're right.

There is indeed a post from 15th December (!!) 2023, featuring a similar calendar.

Which (as pretty much anyone but me would've realised at the time) is, waaaaay too late for anyone who wants their calendar to start on, oooh, I don't know, something radical like...Jan 1st...:-) :-) :-)...Never mind actually getting it in time to send as a gift at Christmas...

Plus the fact that, as it turns out, though I bought private copies, I was clearly in such a pre-Christmas spin last year, that even if anyone had been relaxed about the start-date...I never actually put the calendar properly for sale in my shop last year. (Basically, the lovely flowers floated sadly in a kind of no-man's land internet ether...).

But...

Having bought those private copies however, I can confirm that this really is a lovely thing. Which, finally, and updated to start on Jan 1st 2025,  you actually have a chance to buy now in my online Zazzle shop, in plenty of time, both for Christmas, and the start of 2025...

On that note, and hoping that this tale of my own complete and unwitting ineptitude has made you smile, whatever your stance on calendars... I'll take my leave.

Thanks so much, as ever, for being here, and for reading down this far.

More soon.

The Secret Life of Tissue Paper...

Hello there, and hope all's well with you.

Today, it feels like time to share something that I only realised recently. Which is that there's much more to tissue paper than meets the eye.

And this applies especially to tissue papers bearing patterns and designs, whether they're more vibrant like my new poppy design:

Or as subtle (and seemingly ever-popular- many thanks to everyone who's bought it) as my watercolour sky and clouds patterned tissue paper...

There are lots of uses for tissue paper

In case you're as unfamiliar with all this as I used to be, I probably ought to explain that whilst tissue paper makes a fine job of wrapping gifts and protecting delicate items, it also has an entirely  "other life, " and set of uses.

Or, to put it another way, anyone who's so inclined can completely change the look of their furniture and other items by sticking thin layers of patterned paper to it.

As I'm *much* more arty than crafty myself, have a look at Do Dodson demonstrating the idea with clarity and a beautiful result in her YouTube video on decoupaging.

If you're intrigued by this decoupage paper idea...

If you're intrigued by this idea, (or already a decoupage paper enthusiast) something I *can* offer you, is an ever-expanding selection of hand-designed decoupage/tissue papers in my Zazzle store.

With Halloween on the horizon as I type, for example, perhaps these ravens are calling to you (sorry, couldn't resist the pun :-) ) :

Or, something even more seasonal:

Finally...

Whatever your preference, and whether for decoupage, wrapping or anything else, you can find my increasing collection of tissue and decoupage paper using my artwork as their design,  here.

Thanks *so* much for reading down this far, and have a lovely week.

More soon.

New Design: Map of My Heart

Image shows a greeting card front, bearing a red heart. The heart is on map grip squares, and the title of the map is "Map of My heart". An arrow points to the centre of the heart, labelled "You Are Here,"
A customisable version of this "Map of My Heart Card,"
 is now available on Zazzle.

Hello there, and hope all's well in your corner of the world.

This week, I was finally able to upload and post this card for sale. Originally I designed and sent it to my husband Jim, (a man who definitely enjoys a map).

With his enthusiastic agreement, a version of this design that you can customise for a romantic anniversary, Valentine or other romantic card for a map lover, is now available at Zazzle

The fonts used are slightly different over at Zazzle, but mean you can change the card much more for your own use. (You can also download and print out the card there, if you'd prefer).

Plus... an extra sneak peek

I did *not* however, share the illustrated envelope over at Zazzle. But I thought you might like a peek. (Don't worry, it's not rude or anything..just cute).

Image is a photo of an illustrated envelope. The illustration is of the word, "Jim2, with a hand painted cat on the top of the J. The letters are res with white hearts, the cat is grey, and the cat's pawprints can be seen on the way to the J...
This illustrated envelope definitely isn't for sale...

That's all from here for now. Hope this makes you smile and/or is useful for you or someone you know on a special occasion, especially if they like maps.

Watercolour Sketch: " These Used to Be Green Tomatoes"

Image is a watercolour line and wash sketch showing small home-grown tomatoes in a range of shades from green to orange.

Hello there, and hope life is treating you well.

Am posting this to reassure you that all's well, and nothing bad has happened, despite radio silence from here for a couple of weeks.

What's been happening?

In fact, quite the reverse, as we've been away on holiday, to Exmoor. There was even some sun (and a random herd of wild goats)...

Image is a snap from the car of a large herd of wild goats, in a deserted rocky valley.

(Taking it from the car seemed like
the best way to leave them undisturbed).

Sketches to follow (probably when there's less to draw, illustrate and talk about around these parts).

In the meantime, despite the lovely holiday, this week, for some reason, in the week of clothes-washing and re-kiltering that always seems to follow a break of any length, I've been fascinated by...My mother-in-law's tomatoes.

Why tomatoes, for goodness sake?

Green-house grown and as different from their supermarket counterparts as they could possibly be, these beauties  have ripened up better than I could have imagined, to a range of fascinating colours that complements their higgeldy-piggeldy shapes and sizes.

Though I'm going to have to disappoint both her and myself on the chutney front (she was right: I'd need six times more for that :-)) they'll be lovely to cook with at the weekend.

In other news...

Though have not been back long, can tell you that the autumn berries from the previous post have made it into a printable background in my Craftsuprint shop, and a project I'd love to tell you about (and will soon) but can't yet.

In the meantime, here's smaller and lower-res peek at the berries in action:

And with that, I'd better leave you, and get on with that mysterious new project...

As ever, thanks so much for being here, and for reading down this far.

More soon.
