A Realisation...(And Some Watercolour Bluebells)

Image shows some ink and pen watercolour bluebells, with the caption Sometimes...the World needs more whimsy... in a whimsical font and bluebelly colour
Sometimes...The World Needs More Whimsy...

Hello there

Hope you've been well and thriving these past few...interesting...weeks.

Here, the hiatus isn't really quite over...but I wanted pop back to assure that am still here, and on the case with Where the Blog is Going and everything.

The Why, and the How

Keeping this brief (and believe me, that's a tough one...) after letting it all be for a while, and getting back to drawing, painting and writing just for fun... The most obvious point hit me... I'd lost the sense of why I'm creating anything in the first place, never mind just the blog.

Luckily, it just took the merest peek around the world to remember why. As the bluebells at the top of post say, "Sometimes the world needs more whimsy." And that, I can share with you naturally, and as easily as breathing. (The dictionary  definition of "whimsy" is apparently, "Unusual funny and pleasant ideas or qualities", by the way, if you're into that sort of thing). Maybe even, if you're up for it, and whisper this softly...joy...

The "how" also fell into place after that. Try as I might (and gosh, did I try) everything I draw, make or design make comes back to line and wash watercolour, just like those bluebells. It's a fun, whimsical and joyful medium though, so I guess it fits in pretty well. ;-).

The What and the Where

Which just leaves the "What" and the "Where,". So, as I said, the hiatus isn't really over, and it might be a little while before I post again.

(And if you have any ideas about the "What and the Where" of the way forward-please let me know on Instagram, where I'm planning to get back to a very gentle posting routine again).

In the meantime thanks so much for being here. Stay happy, sane, and (if you want to)...whimsical.

More (reasonably) soonish.

Among the Bluebells

Hello there, and hope all's well with you.

I confess immediately that this post will be mostly photographs, as we've been out enjoying the spring (yes, it arrived, at last). And so I wanted to share some pics with you (mostly taken by The Computer Man, to whom many thanks, and so much love,  as always), as I was too delightedly busy going, "Ooh," and "Wow!" and , "Isn't it lovely to be able to feel the sun again?," to be much use with a camera at the time :-) .

Bluebells in Highgate Wood, by Jim Fernbank

Though we live in London, we're really lucky to live just a  short drive from a really magnificent ancient woodland. And, for just a few short weeks each year, before the tree canopy comes fully back into leaf, part of it is carpeted with the not-quite mauve-not-quite blue and gently-fragrant magic that is a glade of spring bluebells.

No photo can fully capture their colour (which is no slight at all against Jim's excellent skills behind a camera). However, (and especially if you live outside the UK, as I know many of you reading this do), maybe this photo can give you some idea of their colours, as they shift with the light and dance in the wind...

The whole of this photo is flled with lots of bluebell flowers

Yes, they are colours which are exquisitely difficult to pin down and paint or draw (though I once had a go here, and doubtless will do so again).

And close-up, they are things of beauty, too...

So, no new designs in this post, but some very much-needed spring sunshine, relaxation and inspiration.

And if you enjoy cardmaking, do check by my shop on Craftsuprint, as am hoping that and my new "Rambling Rose," design [update April 16th 2024] will be up by the time you read this,  now ready in good time for summer birthdays and occasions.

That's all for now, but thank you so much for being here.

More soon.

New Digital Painting: Among the Bluebells

There are carpets of bluebells in Oxleas Woods, south-east London at the moment...Hence this newest digital painting.

(I will post something other flowers soon: there are just so many birthdays and events for us in May that time is at a premium. But I hope you enjoy this in the meantime.)
And as ever, there are gifts bearing this design, like this one:
